I have got a trivia question for you:  What household product is Brazil the greatest producer of?  Answer: Not flipflops (Havaianas), silly!  SUGAR! 

2006 was a breakthrough year for Brazilian Sugar.  That year, Brazil produced 30 million tons of sugar, which is equivalent to 20% of the world’s sugar production.  Of that volume, a little over close to 18 million tons (17.7 million to be exact!) was exported to other countries.  That’s 40% of the sugar traded in the world.  Brazil equals sugar power, so much so that it can greatly affect the world prices of sugar.

What I find most interesting is that a good amount of  Brazilian Sugar cane crop is being used for sugar ethanol production!  Ethanol is used to run cars and is exported around the world.  See, cars do get their sugar high, too! Now that’s sweet petrol for you. ;)
