Texas is home to thousands of IT (Information Technology) companies. I could just imagine how competitive it is out there. And with the future of the US economy bordering on the “uncertain”, and that’s putting it mildy, it is important that one has something more to offer a company, something that sets him apart from his peers.
A good number of moms and dads in the school my daughter attends work for a popular computer company, which is based in Round Rock, Texas. The school fondly refers to them as “tech gurus”. Hubby, who himself is an electronics and communications engineer, had a nice chat with a fellow dad one time and they both share the same belief that more opportunities await a person who has certifications to boot. Hubby has a number of ISO certifications and the dad he was chatting with was scheduled to attend Cisco certification seminars. I had to excuse myself when their talk became too much for my brain (which is more creative than techie!
If one is serious in expanding and maximizing his career potential, then there is no room for complacency in the career plan, specially in the IT field. That’s why I always encourage hubby to expand his horizons so that if he has room to maneuver his career any which way he wants. Some people who have no IT background suddenly found themselves in that industry. Hubby has the framework for a career in IT already. All he has to do is hone his potential. To be part of the “IT” crowd, you will really have to go for it.
