This is the Arch of the Centuries of the University of Santo Tomas.  To be honest, back in the day when I was a student in UST – 4 years of high school and 5 years of college – I didn’t really pay much attention to this landmark except for the time when we were required to sketch it for  Visual Techniques class.  But when I revisited my alma mater during our Philippine holiday, I couldn’t take enough pictures of the Arch of the Centuries.  After doing a little bit of research, I found out that there’s a new tradition now being observed in UST where freshmen and graduating students walk under the arch – to welcome the freshmen and to send the graduating students (who I’m sure got plenty of career advice) off. I wish we had that tradition back then.  That would have been sweet. :)

I wish I could say these are silver bullion bars, but I can’t because they’re not…at least not yet, metaphorically speaking. *wink*  These are toasted flour cakes or polvoron as we call them in the Philippines.  I love love polvoron!  I’m happy that I was finally able to make them myself.  The things I do to satisfy a craving for a taste of home.  Yum! :)

My daughter loved these so much.  She said they tasted like “the real thing”.  By real thing, she meant bakeshop-bought polvoron. Haha.  I’m gonna make more of these, that’s for sure.  We are running low on supply. Hee hee. :)

My daughter has always loved having dimsum for her school lunches since she was a 3-year old pre-schooler.  She still loves having them for lunch to this day.  She recently had this Beef Siomai/Shumai Bento.  I love that dimsum can be prepared well ahead of time, frozen and just steamed for 15 to 20 minutes when one has a craving for it or running short on dishes to cook for the family.

I love assembling my daughter’s school lunches.  If I could sell these (among other things!) I would!  Hahaha!  I probably have  a better chance of making it in something food-related than in something related to http://wholesaleinsurance.net.  I’m just not that much of a sales pitcher. Hee hee. :D

Cheers, y’all!  Have a great week!
