April 25, 2011

The warmer weather, which will just keep getting warmer and warmer, has gotten  me thinking back to that one day in February when we woke up to a morning where everything was covered in a blanket of snow.  That’s quite unusual here in Austin, so you can just imagine our excitement. Hopefully, we’ll get a chance for some real revelry in the snow, when – God willing – we visit our friends who recently moved to Calgary.  We also found out just last week that our California-based friends are moving to Calgary as well some time in the summer!  What is it with Calgary, I wonder? Anyway, we’ll give them all a chance to get really settled first and get their meetings with calgary mortgage brokers (that’s if they need to apply for mortgage at all!) out of the way before we come knocking at their doors. Hee hee.

Sorbetes (Filipino ice cream, usually made with coconut milk) Season, that is, summer, is just around the corner.  Actually, I think it has already arrived in Austin. :P

It’s going to be another staycation season for us as we don’t have any plans of leaving the great state of Texas, unless we win the lottery. Hee hee.  We might spend some weekends at our favorite nearby citiees – San Antonio, Houston or Dallas.  We’re considering looking into some hitch bike racks so we can bring my daughter’s bike when we go on our weekend trips.  We’ll see how it goes.  Surely, she can survive one weekend without her bike.  Hee! :P

Just a couple of little things I gave up in observance of Lent: meat, Facebook and Angry Birds…

I got a little too addicted attached to Angry Birds that giving it up for Lent became a sacrifice option. Haha! I even thought I wanted an IPad 2 just so I could play the darned app on a bigger screen!

Easter will come early for us, as it has been a family tradition to attend the Easter Vigil on Saturday night.  And I have to say, those pesky green pigs should be ready. I shall launch the birds and I shall launch them hard and far… as far as the Gulf of Mexico (Offshore Injury waiting to happen? Nah!). *evil laughter*

Firm as I was in my resolve to read only “real” books, the pages of which one can actually turn and smell and fold (gasp!), I am now ready to come out and confess that since February, I’ve crossed over to the “dark side” – the e-reader carryin’, e-book readin’ side. :D

It was love at first sight…and touch…and read.  My reading list continues to get longer.  I can’t wait to do a lot more reading when school’s finally out for the summer.  It’ll be hard to tell where the futon covers end and I start.  Hee hee.  More good times!

I was not able to take advantage of any of the Earth Day freebies.  Why did Earth Day have to fall on Good Friday?  As a matter of principle, I opted to just stay home and leave only to attend the Good Friday service in church.  So yes, I was able to successfully resist the call of the mall and Starbucks. *pats self on the back*

I can survive one freebie-deprived day.  The fact is, I’ve been getting a lot of freebies in the mail lately, mostly because of my food blog.  It’s almost like getting a payday advance. Hee hee.  A lot of them are coupons for free stuff. I hope to post photos after they’ve been redeemed. ;) What can I say?  I love freebies!
