A nurse friend of mine and her husband asked me to make a Fairy Garden – themed birthday cake for their daughter’s first birthday. Here’s that pink and purple cake…

I had so much fun making this cake. I made all the decorations ahead of time – around 2 days before the party. The cake, it’s safe to say, was very well-liked and received a lot of compliments from the birthday family’s relatives and friends (mostly nurses, and no, they were not in nurses uniforms!).
This is the 2nd of 3 cakes I made last month that had a fairy topper.
Cheers, y’all!

This is Mia, the Bridesmaid Fairy, or at least, my fondant interpretation of her…

Mia is one of the many fairies from the children’s book series, Rainbow Fairies. Last month, I made a Rainbow Fairies themed cake for a little girl who was a big fan of the series and whose favorite fairy is Mia. I love how the fondant figure turned out, save maybe for the neck part, which could very well use a gold necklace. Haha! The hair could be a tad curly, too! Oh well. The bottom line is, the birthday girl and her mom loved the cake. And that’s all that matters.
Cheers, y’all!

Where did summer break go?! It just zoomed us by like a feet of cars in a NASCAR or Formula 1 race, faster than you can say hyundai sonata custom floor mats! Whew! Tomorrow already marks the 10th day of school. We’ve pretty much already gotten into a comfortable groove. I am back preparing school lunches for my daughter. Here’s the lunch I put together for the first day of school…

It’s Sweet and Spicy Shrimps with steamed brown rice and fresh cherries. I always make sure I involve my daughter in planning her school meals. She’s the one who will be eating them anyway!
It’s going to be a good school year. I already know it!
Cheers, y’all!

My darling daughter celebrated her birthday a few weeks ago. We surprised her with a Dance and Glitz and Glam-themed birthday party. One of the day’s biggest surprises was THE ride that took her and her gal pals to a surprise location…

This ride needs no handheld gps. Hee hee.
The surprise location was a kiddie salon, where the girls had their hair, nails and make-up done. They also got to play dress-up and had a mini fashion show at the end their hour-long make-over. I still feel tingly all over when I think back to that special celebration. Thank you, dear God, for all the blessings!

As my daughter and I bid the summer break good-bye, I bid sweets and the unhealthy pattern of eating I’ve fallen into good-bye as well. That is, starting Monday! Hahaha! Much as I am not quite ready yet to trade sleeping in for crazy school mornings, I am just about ready to get back in tip top shape. I haven’t participated in any 2011 running events yet and I am most definitely planning on participating in the Komen Race for the Cure in November. And if I have any dreams of getting into a camo lingerie (Yeah, right!), I better start working out ASAP!
I’ll be taking the slowly but surely route to fitness just like I did last year. I should be seeing results by Thanksgiving…or by race day, in the first week of November.
Wish me luck!
